About

The Website

Royal Patraine is a fan site to the magical girl series Ojamajo Doremi and all of its sequels. Its purpose is to become a resource for both old and new fans as well as provide insight, opinion, and some small analysis to some of the concepts seen in the show. This site was created out of my love for this cute, heart-warming series and is practically my manifesto of why people should watch it.

This website existed before streaming video websites were popular and fansubs were more readily available. Despite that people can access media more easily, I strive to deliver interpretations and information that you can't find just by watching the show. Unique is the key!

Pre Era

The site's true origin stemmed from Sugar Kitsune in 2003, a fan and artwork site. It was hosted on Brinkster, which before did not have any ads on it. It soon became a site dedicated to my favorite female characters from various series, which at the time was a popular idea for many web designing fans. I wanted to make all the character descriptions and profiles in depth, but I got too lazy and it became too much work. I decided to make a fan site that focused one series only, and it just so happened that by March 2003, I was introduced to Ojamajo Doremi and immersed myself into it. I soon began to dislike the name Sugar Kitsune and named it into something more fitting.

Pretty Witch Era (2003-2006)

I first called the site Puriti Witchi starting from August 13, 2003, because that was how the witches phonetically pronounced it. The name came from the post-transformation phrase in Ojamajo Doremi, which was, "Pretty witch __cchi!" I thought that typing it out looked too weird, so I soon began titling it as Pretty Witch. The site continued staying on Brinkster until Erin of sweetdreamz.net offered to host me. Pretty Witch was hosted there until November 7, 2003, where Yami hosted me on evil-kitty.com. Pretty Witch thrived there for a very long time until it was temporarily shut down in late January of 2005 due to revamping as well as the frustration I held for the many sites that copied my information.

The site made a comeback in July 2005 and continued expanding, especially when the 4Kids dub debuted. The site was condensed so that it would not take up too much bandwidth, and there were also many useless pages I wanted to get rid of. For example, before, this website was also a fan artwork site where I would display my Ojamajo Doremi fanart. I removed my fanart because my old fanart is too embarrassing to put up since I was learning how to CG back then to my standards as of today, it was nothing close to decent. The website also used to network my other Ojamajo Doremi-related sites, Aquamarine (Aiko fanlisting and fan site) and Rainbow (Momoko fan site), until I slowly closed down both sites in 2005-2006 due to lack of interest and time.

Unfortunately, in February 2006, evil-kitty.com expired and Yami couldn't seem to renew the domain. I personally did not mind because Pretty Witch was too much work for me, and there were too many outdated pages I needed to rewrite. I decided I would work on it if I had more time, which I never did due to school.

Royal Patraine Era (2006-today)

During July 2006, I found time to work on the site again and gave it a makeover. First, I wanted to change the website title again. I was pretty sick of the name Pretty Witch because it was unoriginal to me; I felt that it sounded like I was completely stealing the name from pretty-witch.net, an Ojamajo Doremi community that lived in 2001, even though it was only a coincidence that I gave my website the same name. I renamed it into Royal Patraine. I've liked that name since 2004, and I had been hoping to rename the website into that if I ever bought a domain name for it; however, although I did not end up buying a domain name, this was the best chance to change it. In my honest opinion, the Royal Patraine outfits are the best-designed witch uniforms ever.

The website reopened on July 29, 2006, and was hosted on the domain of my friend Zakura, aoimari.org. On January 31, 2008, aoimari.org expired and again Royal Patraine was left without a home; additionally, no more effort was put into it as I was busy with school. Another friend of mine, Maia, extended an invitation to host this website, and now it currently resides on sol-aria.org.

About Me

Why, hello there! I am Josephine, some Asian girl born in 1989 who ran this site from its birth many years ago. I began web designing since age 11 and this is currently my oldest site online. Ojamajo Doremi is something I've grown up from my early teens to today, and it is one of my favorite series ever. Although I have favorites, I love (almost) every aspect of this show dearly. How did I start becoming interested in Ojamajo Doremi? Well, I was a Digimon fan and often visited TROUBLE BUSTERS × TAMERS in 2001 because I was a huge fan of the Lee Jenrya × Makino Ruki pairing. That website was popular for its Lee × Ruki fanart. It also had some Yada × Hazuki drawings as well, and that was my first exposure to Ojamajo Doremi. However, at the time I had no idea what the title of the series was, nor did I continue to look into it.

Later, I was browsing a website called Sugar and Spice (owned by my friend Jody; no longer online) in 2002. Many Digimon girl fan sites had comparisons of Takenouchi Sora VS Aiko and Inoue Miyako VS Hazuki. Then, in 2003, I visited Digi Lilly Girls, and it had a page about the witches from Ojamajo Doremi. I was fascinated at how the main characters were color-coded and even had fairies that looked like them. My interest multiplied and I started to investigate about what the series was about.

I came upon Candy Flower (owned by Mirei-san; no longer online), and it was probably the uniqueness of the site that drew me in. I learned more about the series and the characters to the point that I really wanted to see it. I downloaded some clips off of Anime Intro Archive and enjoyed what I saw. Soon, I then came upon Star Hedgehog Network, where it had downloadable episodes over IRC. Luckily, I had IRC and my brother showed me how to use it, and we downloaded episodes. I admit that Ojamajo Doremi was the first series I ever saw in its original Japanese format. ♡
