Misora City

About

Aside from Doremi and the girls' witch lives, the other half of the show takes place in Misora City (美空市) (Misora-shi), also alternatively known as Misora Town (美空町) (Misora-cho/Misora-chou). Misora City is an ocean-side city where Doremi and the girls live and go to school. It is a fictitious subdivision of Tokyo, but some of its places are based off of Otsu City in the Shiga Prefecture.¹ It is said to be in the Kantou region of Japan.

Name

The name "Misora" uses the characters for "beautiful sky", but the real entymology comes from the fact that "mi-so-la" are also notes in the "do-re-mi" scale, skipping the "fa." It is in fact another musical pun in the show.

Doremi and Co.'s Homes

With the exception of Hana-chan, who lives with Majorika and Lala at the MAHO Dou, all of the girls live in different places in Misora City. Doremi and Pop live in a two-story house at a typical suburban area; Hazuki lives in the more quieter, wealthier setting of town in a large mansion-like house on a hill; Onpu lives in a two-story house near Misora Public Park; Aiko lives on the first floor of a two-story apartment building called Mondo Nagamine somewhere near downtown; and Momoko lives in a modest, one-story simple house.
